Madness

Misha, who was not born Jewish, had no obligation to enter the Warsaw Ghetto. But the love he felt for a certain family compelled him to do so. And is it a reminder to all of us to ask ourselves a wrenching moral question: What would we do? As the city descends into chaos under Nazi occupation, identities shift, the rich become the poor, the damned become the fortunate, the thieves become the givers. It is madness.

When our creative team first started working, our plan was to make the world we were designing grayer and grayer the worse things got. But then we found testimonies and even some paintings by survivors. One of the cruel ironies that they attest to is that while this madness was descending, nature went on as usual, providing beautiful colors in sunsets, autumn leaves and spring flowers. We knew we had to keep the color in everything to attest to the horror of it all.
