Update II: Art Direction - Who’s telling the story?

“I had not know bread could be given”. Prior to this moment, Misha (our protagonist) had always had to steal bread. It had never been -given- to him before. But, it was all for show. The Nazis were well known for their propaganda films which they used to show their humanity as occupiers, and the inhumanity of those they were occupying. For a long time, these Nazi films were the most comprehensive accounts of what had gone on simply because no other media was available. More recently footage has been discovered, written accounts unearthed, movies made and Nazi films refuted for being intensely staged and fraudulent. In this scene, a loaf of bread lands in Misha’s hands. He’s not even clamoring for it- though those around him are desperate for the bread. As our camera pulls out we see the Nazi officer gallantly tossing the loaves. We also see the Nazi film cameras “documenting” the scene and completely ignoring the desperation around them.
